Thailand is a beautiful country with a tropical climate in the southeast region of Asia. Thailand is bordered by Myanmar to the north, Malaysia to the south, Laos and Cambodia to the east, and the gorgeous Andaman Sea to the west. The population of Thailand is about 65 million people with almost 13 million of those people living in or around the country’s capital, Bangkok. All of these people live in a country that is roughly the size of TEXAS!
Thailand is a highly unreached country. Being regarded as the most staunchly Buddhist country in the world, it is not surprising that 95% of the people consider themselves as Buddhist! With a close proximity to Muslim Malaysia, Islam ranks as the second highest religion at 3.8%. Sadly, Christianity is represented by only 0.5% of the population.
Buddhism permeates every aspect of Thai life. In fact, Thai people believe being Thai and being Buddhist are one and the same. The Buddhist beliefs are not only in their traditions and culture but also their politics, government, education system, businesses and homes. We would be remiss if we did not mention that the King, who has been on the throne for over 60 years, is the spiritual head of the nation. King Bhuminbol is deeply loved and respected by the Thai people.
